COLAAB at the 2026 Microphysiological Systems World Summit
COLAAB member Dr. Catharine E. Krebs of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine will present a poster at the 2026 Microphysiological Systems (MPS) World Summit: "Addressing animal methods bias: The peer review bias that favors animal use and sets back MPS adoption" (abstract 145).
Understanding Challenges and Opportunities for the Transition Beyond Animal Experimentation
Radboud University and the University of Basel are co-hosting an online workshop on the challenges and opportunities for transitioning away from animal experimentation. Dr. Catharine E. Krebs of the Physicians Committee and the COLAAB will speak about animal methods bias as a barrier to this transition. Her presentation will include the latest evidence the COLAAB has gathered and bias mitigation strategies we are developing.
Animal-Free Workshop Series for Early-Career Researchers: Workshop No. 5, Addressing the Preference for Animal-Based Research Methods
The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine and Johns Hopkins University Center for Alternatives to Animal Testing (CAAT) host an online workshop series focused on animal-free new approach methods (NAMs) in research and testing. Workshop No. 5 will feature Dr. Catharine E. Krebs of the Physicians Committee and the COLAAB discussing animal methods bias. In addition to a review of the current evidence for animal methods bias, this presentation will provide recommendations for researchers, journals, and funders for mitigating its harmful effects.
COLAAB at the 2025 Animalfree Research Foundation Forum
Perception and Power: Barriers to Animal-Free Research
Modern research methods such as organoids, computer-based models, and organ-on-a-chip technologies have opened up innovative pathways that are often more precise, faster, and more human-relevant than animal experiments. Yet, despite their scientific promise, these approaches face persistent barriers to broader adoption.
COLAAB at the 13th World Congress on Alternatives and Animal Use in the Life Sciences
COLAAB member Emily Trunnell of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals will discuss "Addressing animal methods bias in scientific publishing" (Abstract Number 253) in Session #74: Bias, Reporting and Assessment – How to replace, reduce and refine animal experiments by looking at the available data.
COLAAB webinar: How to advocate for fair funding and overcome animal methods bias
While researchers can play an important role in preventing and addressing animal methods bias, funding agencies must also take action to ensure that peer review is not a barrier to the broader development and use of NAMs. Join us to learn how you can advocate for your funders to act now to level the playing field for researchers using NAMs! Registration is required.
3Rs Training Webinar: Addressing Reviewers’ Preference for Animal-Based Methods
The next 3Rs Training Webinar hosted by the Johns Hopkins University Center for Alternatives to Animal Testing (CAAT) and the Animal Protection Commissioner of Berlin will feature Catharine E. Krebs, PhD, COLAAB member from the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine.
COLAAB at the Young TPI Impact Workshop
Calling all early-career researchers! Are you ready to amplify the impact of your research in the transition to animal-free innovation? Join us for the Young TPI Impact Workshop on October 31st in Utrecht for a hands-on experience that will help you take your research further than ever! In this workshop, we’ll dive into topics such as overcoming animal bias in publishing, transforming research into products and services, and communicating your findings to any audience.
COLAAB at the American Society for Cellular and Computational Toxicology Annual Meeting
COLAAB member Catharine E. Krebs of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine will present a poster entitled "Illuminating and addressing animal methods bias" in the Reception and Poster Session II.
COLAAB at the Latin American Congress on Alternative Methods to Animal Testing
COLAAB member Bianca Marigliani of Human Society International and the Animal-Free Safety Assessment Collaboration will give a talk on the Author Guide for Addressing Animal Methods Bias in Publishing.
