As part of ongoing efforts to reduce waste, promote animal alternatives (all the three Rs), and increase the reproducibility of research and testing, a group of experts from the UK and Norway, led by Norecopa, has produced a set of guidelines for planning and conducting experiments:
PREPARE (Planning Research and Experimental Procedures on Animals: Recommendations for Excellence)
Part 1 of the PREPARE Guidelines contains literature search tools. Literature searches help to identify possible non-animal alternatives to all or part of the proposed study, among other purposes.
